If you would like to participate in Laur’s and Garrett’s experiment for +15XP, send me an email with subject line “NLP extra credit signup” before Friday the 21st at midnight. In the body of the email, you should indicate which of the following sessions (all in Farmer 022) you’d like to sign up for:
- Mon Nov 24 — 4-5pm
- Mon Dec 1 — 4-5pm
- Tue Dec 2 — 4-5pm
- Wed Dec 3 — 4-5pm
- Thu Dec 4 — 8-9pm
- Fri Dec 5 — 4-5pm
Each experimental session will last no more than one hour, but you must arrive on time.
Alternatively, if you would instead like to write a 1½ single-spaced essay for this extra credit, you may do so. Your essay is due on Friday December 5th at 5pm, and should be placed in my NLP envelope hanging outside my office. The topic of this essay should be political polarization in social media, and it must be well-researched and documented. In it, you should cite at least two reputable academic sources on the topic, and your essay should synthesize their findings and present an overview of how this important subset of online communication has developed over the recent years. It should be well-structured, free from spelling and grammar errors, and be a pleasure to read.
